Discover Mt Pleasant Bar-B-Q, a longtime Cleveland barbecue destination located at 12725 Kinsman Rd, Cleveland, OH 44120, United States. With decades of neighborhood history, a straightforward takeout format, and a reputation for saucy ribs and hearty portions, this spot represents an old-school side of Cleveland’s barbecue culture. Customers can call +1 216-561-8722 for current availability, catering information, or takeout orders.
Mt Pleasant Bar-B-Q in Cleveland focuses on classic American barbecue and comfort food rather than polished presentation. The menu revolves around ribs, rib tips, shoulder sandwiches, chicken wings, Polish Boys, catfish sandwiches, fries, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. Most meals fall around the affordable $10–$20 range, making the restaurant particularly appealing when portion size and satisfying flavor matter more than formal dining.
The Rib Tip Tray is one of the strongest orders for first-time visitors. The tips deliver the smoky, chewy-tender texture barbecue fans look for, while the restaurant’s sauce adds sweetness, tang, and a rich finish. Paired with fries soaked in extra sauce, the plate captures the bold, messy pleasure of Cleveland-style neighborhood barbecue. Customers frequently mention the ribs and rib tips among their repeat orders.
Another local favorite is the Beef Polish Boy. This Cleveland classic combines a grilled sausage with fries, barbecue sauce, and slaw, creating layers of smoky meat, crisp potatoes, sweetness, acidity, and crunch in every bite. It is not designed to be delicate; it is filling, saucy, and unmistakably rooted in the city’s comfort-food tradition.
The Shoulder Sandwich is equally worth considering. Tender barbecue meat is piled into a simple bun and finished with sauce, allowing the smoky, savory pork to remain the centerpiece. For seafood lovers, the Catfish Sandwich provides a crisp alternative to the heavier smoked meats.
Customer opinion reflects both loyalty and occasional inconsistency. Mt Pleasant Bar-B-Q currently carries roughly a 4.1-star Google rating from well over 1,000 reviews. One recent diner called it the “best food” they had during a return to their Cleveland hometown and praised the service, while longtime supporters describe the restaurant as a family favorite. Other reviews mention uneven experiences, so consistency can depend on timing and the particular order.
The setting is casual, historic, and strongly takeout-oriented. There is little emphasis on décor or lengthy table service; the appeal comes from quick comfort food, neighborhood character, and recipes that have kept customers returning for decades. Free parking and catering availability add practical value, although popular periods can bring a wait.
Compared with some of the best restaurants in Cleveland offering polished smokehouse experiences, Mt Pleasant Bar-B-Q succeeds on different terms: affordability, local identity, generous servings, and unapologetically saucy barbecue. For one of Cleveland’s enduring local dining experiences, visit Mt Pleasant Bar-B-Q, order the rib tips or a Polish Boy, and experience a neighborhood barbecue tradition with deep roots in the city.
“ I always come through when I visit!! I have eaten here over a zillion times as a child and now an adult. Disclaimer : this is the hood family owned restaurant that might not look pretty from the outside BUT the food always SLAPS!! The building is on corner with no parking lot. But there's a lot of street parking. There's no call in orders nor online pickups so you go inside and wait. Depending on the day of the week, the wait might be up to 30-45 minutes if it's packed. So plan accordingly lol. They have BBQ, wings, fish, and also turkey, beef and pork polish boys! You have not lived until you experience a Cleveland polish boy!!! Thank me later I usually get the wings snack pack. It's a wing and fries combo NO Drink for about $8. Delicious I also suggest the shoulder sandwich and the polish boy. Again, thank me later ”
Belvy M.“ great service, best bbq on that side of town. Fs under rated. Grab you a polish boy and thank me later ”
Anthony G.“ What can I say Mt. Pleasant will always be home to me. I gave it a 4 because the sides have fallen of except for the coleslaw. However the turkey ribs never disappoint. So I'll keep going back. ”
Jackee P.“ we love the rib tips. thry have great crispy wings.coleslaw is good, and tha sauce is banging. they givevyou a very nice portions. be syre to say sauce on the side because they gave a hefty amount of sauce.. ”
Timothy H.“ Just like Whitmore's, Mt Pleasant serves a near identical version of the Polish Boy. The only thing is, their customer service is a lot better. It has the same hand cut fries, covered with bbq sauce on top of a perfectly cooked keilbasa. There's no place to sit so it take out only. And it's lacking the cole slaw as well. Needs a lot more of it. And just like Whitmore's, the fries soak all the bbq sauce, so it would be nice if they would have added some more bbq sauce. Overall a very tasty Polish Boy that rivals Whitmore's as one of the best in the city. ”
